100th da Vinci Surgical Robot Surgery Performed at Lourdes Hospital
Wednesday, September 08, 2010
On Tuesday, August 31,
2010, the 100th da Vinci Surgical Robot surgery was
performed at Lourdes Hospital. Lourdes began using the da Vinci
Si HD Surgical System in September of 2009. It is the
most technologically advanced robotic surgery system. This advanced
technology allows doctors to treat patients needing surgery in the
most minimally invasive fashion possible. Lourdes houses the
only da Vinci Si HD Surgical Robot in the area.
The da Vinci Si HD Surgical System allows a surgeon and the
surgical team greater 3 dimensional and high definition
visualization, enhanced dexterity with micro instruments,
precision, control and superior ergonomics. Multiple clinical
studies have shown that the da Vinci Surgical System offers
patients a significantly short hospital stay, less pain, less risk
of infection, less blood loss, less scarring and a faster
recovery.
Physicians who have performed da Vinci surgery at Lourdes
include: Dr. James Kondrup, Dr. Michael Farrell, Dr. James
Steinmetz, Dr. Peter Lethin and Dr. Christian Tvetenstrand.
Since September of 2009, 39 prostate surgeries, 56 female
gynecological surgeries and 5 general surgeries have been
performed.
