Jo Straneva Receives State Award

Jo Straneva, DNS, ANP -
BC Clinical Coordinator, Lourdes Breast Care Center, is the
recipient of the Innovation in Breast Cancer Research and Education
Award presented by the New York State Breast and Cervical Cancer
Detection and Education Advisory Council.
The award is presented annually to an individual, health
professional or non-profit organization in recognition of their
outstanding commitment to breast cancer research and/or education
which has had a significant impact on the lives of New York
residents.
Jo was nominated for the award by Carrie Abbott, of the Southern
Tier Cancer Services Program. According to Abbott, "Jo always puts
her patients' care first, making sure to factor in all the
challenges that her patients may be facing, such as emotional
response, family issues, finances and barriers to care. She is a
strong advocate who goes above and beyond for the sake of her
patients. She collaborates with other community organizations to
enhance the care that she is able to provide in order to meet her
patients' needs and overcome barriers to care."
Jo received her award from Maureen Killackey, MD, Deputy
Physician-in-Chief and Medical Director of the Regional Care
Network for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Chair of
the NYS Breast and Cervical Advisory Council in a ceremony at the
Lourdes Breast Care Center on May 20.
