Former Youth Services Director Receives Award

Congratulations to Bette
Gifford who has received the Cindy Chaplin
Humanitarian Award.
Since 1998, the Children and Youth Services Council has voted to
present an annual award to an individual in the community who has
in some way exemplified a commitment to children and children's
services.
Nominees for this award are individuals who have gone above and
beyond to accomplish one or more of the following: provide advocacy
for community children in need, establish a new an innovative
service for children and families, and/or bring about collaboration
in the child serving community.
The 2010 award was presented to Bette Gifford, former director
of Lourdes Youth Services, on June 4 during the Stand for Children
March & Rally in downtown Binghamton. Bette retired from
Lourdes in April after working for 14 years to develop and grow
Lourdes Youth Services programs.
Cindy Chaplin was a long time member of the Children and
Youth Services Council, and was very active on the coordinating
committee. She worked with many members of the council on various
children's initiatives within the county, such as the development
the Therapeutic After School Program and the Children and Youth
Mobile Crisis Team.
