Lourdes Presents Golden Stethoscope Awards
Monday, December 06, 2010
Lourdes Medical Staff recently presented the Golden Stethoscope
Awards, which are given to members of the medical staff who exhibit
Clinical Excellence and Education, Leadership and Teamwork.
Providers are nominated by their peers and co-workers. This
year, a donation will be made in honor of the Golden Stethoscope
Award recipients to a charity of their choice.
The award recipients are:
Clinical Excellence and Education

Steven Spivak, DO, has
requested that a donation be made to SmileTrain: The World's
Leading Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Charity.
"Dr. Spivak will advocate for his patients whether it is talking
to an insurance company about an MRI or for a prescription
authorization. He will always take the time to do what is in the
best interest of his patients. Dr. Spivak takes the time to write a
personal letter of condolence to family members if someone in the
family passes away. His kindness and compassion embody the values
and mission of Lourdes Hospital."
Leadership

James Terzian, MD, has requested that
a donation be made to the Dr. Garabed A. Fattal Community Free
Clinic in Binghamton.
"Dr. Terzian has proudly served as medical director of Pathology
and Laboratory since he arrived at Lourdes in 1990, always striving
to improve services and acquire state-of-the art equipment. He
consistently takes action to improve the quality of care given to
Lourdes patients. Through his leadership, Lourdes has received the
highest commendations from State and National Audits, Joint
Commission, and the American College of Surgeons, Commission on
Cancer."
Teamwork

Ronald Harris, DO, has
requested that a donation be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society.
"Cancer: it is one of the scariest words that a patient can
hear. Dr. Harris has a way of bringing light to every case he has.
He recognizes that treating cancer is important. But treating the
patient with cancer is more important. Dr. Harris advocates for his
patients with heart. Dr. Harris has a particular finesse when
dealing with families whose loved ones have been diagnosed with a
terminal illness. Dr. Harris holds the nurses in high regard,
trusting their opinions and listening to their ideas. He makes us
(nursing staff) feel like an equally important member of the
team."
Honorable Mentions
Honorable mentions were presented to Cesar Dionisio, MD, and
David Ellison, MD, in the
category of Clinical Excellence & Education and Craig Monroe, MD, in the
