Cloth Diapering Information Session
Monday, December 06, 2010
A free Cloth Diapering
Information Session will be held at Lourdes Hospital on Saturday,
December 11, from 10:00 AM - Noon.
Guests can learn the benefits of cloth diapering and whether it
is the best option for them.
Some of the benefits of using cloth diapers include:
- A cost savings of about $800 - $1,600 over the diapering period
of the child, versus using disposable diapers (including the cost
of laundering). Cost savings can vary depending on the type of
cloth diaper used, the brand of disposable diaper that might have
been used, and the type of system used to launder cloth diapers
(e.g., electric or gas).
- Environmental benefits. Over an entire diapering period, a
child can go through a minimum of 5,500 diapers. According to
Eartheasy.com, it is estimated that 10,000 tons of disposable
diapers are thrown into landfills each day. It takes approximately
550 years for one disposable diaper to decompose. Using cloth
diapers can reduce the amount of garbage entering our landfills
every day.
- Fewer instances of diaper rash. Because it is difficult to tell
when a disposable diaper is wet, children who wear disposable
diapers often sit in a wet diaper longer than children who wear
cloth diapers.
Guests can also learn about the different types of cloth diapers
and cloth diaper accessories available. Types of cloth diapers
available include:
- Prefolds
- Contours
- Fitted
- Pocket Diapers
- All-In Ones
This information session will be held in the East/West Dining
Room, on the ground floor of the hospital near the cafeteria.
Guests will have an opportunity to win door prizes, including cloth
diapers and other accessories. Light refreshments will be
served.
