Identity Theft Prevention at Lourdes

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

In response to worry about identity theft, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and other government agencies now require hospitals and other organizations that issue “credit” by providing services in advance of payment to have an Identity Theft Prevention Program.

To make the program work, Lourdes will ask you to show us a photo identification, or two other forms of identification and your insurance information. We will ask for this each time you come to the Hospital or any of our clinics for services. Patient care will not be delayed due to lack of identification. (Note: This does not apply to visitors.)

We hope that this new process will be easy for you.

Due to a notice of delay by the FTC for implementation of this regulation, Lourdes will likewise delay implementation until further clarification is provided by the FTC or Congress.  The new proposed date of implementation is August 1, 2009.
