Parenting Workshop Has Openings
Monday, February 16, 2009
Lourdes HOPE Project (Helping Parents to be Educators) is
offering an eleven week evening workshop that was developed by
local parents of teens. This workshop was designed to help parents
face the challenges of being parents of teenagers. The forum will
explore new strategies for talking to teens about making good
decisions about difficult topics. These topics include: risky
behaviors, such as sexual activity; tobacco, alcohol, or drug use;
violence; personal care and safety.
The Parent Forum is a work group made up of parents who will
meet to discuss strategies to talk to teens about issues that
affect teens and share their parenting experiences and ideas. The
group will also provide feedback to local agencies about their
services and network with other parents, sharing the strategies
that were developed.
Participants must live in Broome County, have a child age 10-14,
desire to have effective communication with their child about the
avoidance of risky behaviors and be committed to promoting parents
as the primary educators of children.
The class meets weekly for eleven weeks. Child care,
transportation and meals are provided. Pre-registration is
required. Next series begins on Tuesday, 2/24.
