A bone density exam is a quick and easy exam that will assist the physician in assessing your bone health. This test uses enhanced, low dose x-ray technology to measure your degree of bone loss. A bone density test is used to determine if you have, or are at risk of, osteoporosis.

How do I get a bone density exam?

First, you must obtain a written order from your physician with a valid ICD-9 code(s). Once you have a written order from your physician, call our Central Scheduling office at 607-798-5723 to schedule an appointment. Please have your written order and insurance cards ready when you call.

How do I prepare for a bone density exam?

You will need to provide a brief history including any prescription medications you might be taking. On the day of the exam, please don't take any calcium supplements or multivitamins as it will affect the results of the exam.

How is a bone density exam done?

Bone density exams are quick, easy, and painless. You will be asked to lie on a padded table for a few minutes while we scan your hips and lumbar spine.

How do I get my results?

The resulting scan, along with an interpretation from the radiologist, will be forwarded to your physician.
